Is It Hard Work or Just My Luck? 🍀
Is luck earned?
I think it’s hard to see that in the 21st century, as success can often appear to be a stroke of good fortune.
We see the smiles, vacations, events, clothes, cuisine, and all the other shiny objects that everyone (ourselves included) presents to the world. I’ve heard people say, “Ugh, they’re so lucky,” as they witness someone else’s achievements or lifestyle.
But behind those projections, there’s often a story of dedication, sacrifices, and relentless hard work.
And I often wonder, “Wow, what did the behind-the-scenes look like?”
While success can sometimes feel like a matter of luck or natural talent, it's easy to overlook the role that hard work and perseverance play in creating those moments of opportunity.
The truth is, the more we work toward our goals, the more likely we are to hit lucky breaks that propel us toward success.
✨Luck is in our control.✨
Luck isn’t just a mysterious force; it’s something we can actively create through our choices and a little elbow grease.
So, what does this look like?
It may be different for everyone, but here are 3 core principles that have significantly influenced my journey and created the most “luck” in my life:
🍀 See Beyond Yourself
While I’m highly self-motivated, there are times when I’m the only stakeholder in my motivation. In those moments, it’s easy to take a break—after all, Real Housewives isn’t going to watch itself (anyone else obsessed?). However, when I look beyond myself and consider those impacted by my work—co-workers, clients, friends, and family—my sense of responsibility deepens. Keeping others in mind makes me more accountable and gives me a reason to stay consistent, even when motivation isn’t easy to find.
🍀 Stay Connected
Did anyone else have a hard time crawling out of their COVID hole?
Just me?
Well, over the past year, I’ve made a conscious effort to return to networking and intentionally put myself out there. This has truly resulted in an abundance of opportunities, fresh ideas, and new relationships. Humans are wired for connection, and embracing this need has been fulfilling not only on a personal level but also incredibly fruitful professionally. Often, luck can be found in the people around us – the connections we nurture and the support we offer each other.
🍀 Never Stop Learning
At Accelity, we have a built-in continuous learning system (that I had the privilege of creating!) called GrowthHero. Every quarter, we complete monthly prompts, read a book, or take a course. This structured approach has been a fantastic way to keep me accountable in my learning journey and has sparked some of the business ideas I’ve implemented.
Growth, after all, is continuous. By investing in education and staying curious, we keep our minds open to new possibilities and innovative approaches. These learning moments often shape the opportunities that, in hindsight, look like “luck.”
✨The Secret Behind Luck✨
So, the next time you find yourself attributing someone’s success to luck, remember: hard work is the hidden ingredient. While luck may play a role, it’s more often persistence, growth, and connection that open doors.
Keep grinding, stay dedicated, and watch as your luck begins to unfold.
